E
- EFFECTIVE CROSS-SECTIONAL AREA
- Effective width times effective height.
- EFFECTIVE FILTRATION AREA
- The surface area of a filter (particularly pleated and cartridge filters) available for filtration, not the total area used to make the filter - some is taken up in seals, joints, etc.
- EFFECTIVE HEIGHT
- The total height of collecting surface measured top to bottom.
- EFFECTIVE LENGTH
- The total length of collecting surface measured direction of gas flow.
- EFFECTIVE MIGRATION VELOCITY
- This parameter, defined by the Deutsch-Anderson
relationship, is related to the average speed with which dust particles in an electrostatic
precipitator move towards the collecting electrode. Values are generally stated in terms of ft/min.
or cm/sec.
- EFFECTIVE WIDTH
- Total number of gas passages multiplied by spacing dimension of the
collecting surfaces.
- EFFICIENCY
- The ability, expressed as a percent, of a filter to remove a specified artificial contaminant at a given contaminant concentration under specified test conditions.
- EFFLUENT
- The fluid that is passed through a filter (also known as filtate or product stream). The outflow from other types of of treatment such as wastewater treatment plants.
- ELECTROSTATIC PRECIPITATOR
- A type of particulate filtration control that attracts charged particles to oppositely charged surfaces to collect airborne particulates. In this process, the particles are charged by ionizing the air with an electric field. The charged particles are then collected by a strong electric field generated between oppositely-charged electrodes.
- ELONGATION
- Increase in fiber length or deformation from stretching. Measured as a
percentage of original length.
- EMISSIONS
- Particulate escape through or around baghouse into the atmosphere.
- ENDS
- An individual warp yarn; runs the length of fabric.
- END LOSS
- The fabric lost or wasted when laid on the lay table, beyond the start or finish of
given pattern.
- EPA
- Environmental Protection Agency. The federal agency responsible for developing and enforcing environmental policy in the United States and its territories.
- EPITROPIC
- Fiber whose surface contains embedded particles to modify one or more properties of the fiber, typically electrical conductivity.
- ESP
- See ELECTROSTATIC PRECIPITATOR.
