FEMA™ Efficiency Testing

Menardi's Filter Efficiency Media Analyzer (FEMA) provides a standard for the evaluation and testing of bag filter media. The equipment and procedure allows for a faster and more reliable method for selecting the right filter media for a given filtration application and simulates media performance in real life baghouse operations. Standard tests are usually run for 100 cleaning cycles to simulate steady state conditions with a constant filter rate and dust feed rate. Filter media tests are run using standard limestone dusts or the customer's product may be used to test the filter media.

At the end of each run, the residual pressure drop after cleaning, the time between cleaning cycles, the weight gain of the media, and the dust concentration (emission) of clean gas are recorded. A comparison of these four factors provides an excellent basis for selecting the right media for a given application. Tests by the FEMA are conducted by a PC, and all data is continuously logged, ensuring accuracy and repeatability of the test. The FEMA further provides automatic cleaning at a predefined dP, a constant feeding system and de-agglomeration of dust using a radioactive source. Using the FEMATM to evaluate filter media prior to selection for a given application eliminates the risk of selecting the wrong media and makes life easier by avoiding bag changeouts.
